Keep a Record

If you are able to be with the person for the first week or so.  Keep a record of all the people who visit, call or drop something by.  During the first month or so of grief, everything is forgotten.  The griever may seem fully participative in all that is going on, but their memory will be very spotty of all that occurs.

Later the griever will be surprised to see who came and who brought things by.  They just can't remember.

The other reason is to give tangible evidence of all the people who are trying to show love to the griever.  It's a great feeling to know that many people are reaching out and wondering about you when you are suffering.
